Matthew McConaughey Might Be My New Favorite Actor. How Did that Happen?

I have added the following reviews:

Out of the Furnace

Out of the Furnace

Grade: C-

Dallas Buyer’s Club

Dallas Buyers Club

Grade: A-

Both feature tremendous performances from amazing casts, but Out of the Furnace lacks a good screenplay. Dallas Buyer’s Club is high quality, and McConaughey is fantastic.

  1. Ahah, I like your title there and I’m so with you! I couldn’t stand him before as he comes across so slimy. But he’s won me over in Lincoln Lawyer and Mud. Haven’t seen Dallas Buyer Club yet but I’d imagine he gave a performance of his life in it!

      • Agreed on Bernie. And do not think of this as a recommendation for Killer Joe or The Paperboy. I don’t know what to say about the latter, really; the performances were universally memorable (except for Cusack’s, which was over the top), but the movie is so strange as to be far from great. And Killer Joe. If memory serves me correctly, it is my third least favorite movie of 2012 (out of the 90 plus I saw).

      • Just based on what I’ve read so far, the premise just doesn’t interest me. There are certain things that I just don’t want to subject myself to, plain and simple I just don’t care to and I don’t feel like I’m missing out. I know some people have a high tolerance for disturbing content, but I’m not one of them.

    • That seems pretty likely. I think he should get a Best Supporting nom for Mud, as well (though the studio will probably submit him as a Best Lead). We’ll see what happens with Wolf on Wall Street.

  2. He started becoming good when he ditched the romantic comedies and his famous “lean to one side” on his posters!

Seriously the guy is on a roll. I thought he was outstanding in Mud. Can’t wait to see Dallas Buyers Club and Interstellar.
