Experimenting With the Experimental

I recently added the following reviews:

Escape From Tomorrow

None of them are unwatchable, per se, but Upstream Color and Europa Report are definitely better than Escape From Tomorrow.

Sometimes the Best Stories Are the Real Ones

Recently I have added the following reviews:

The East

The East

Grade: C

Stories We Tell

Stories We Tell

Grade: A

Movie 43

Movie 43

Grade: F-

Obviously, Stories We Tell is the highlight. One of the best documentaries I have ever seen, it has actually cracked my Top 10 for 2013, at least for the time being.

An Analysis, A Love Square, And Some New-Age Revenge

I have added reviews for the following:

We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks

Grade: B-

The Host

Grade: D

Only God Forgives

Grade: D-

We Steal Secrets is the only one I recommend, at least in part because it makes me appreciate Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance in The Fifth Estate all the more. The real Julian Assange is featured in the documentary, and it is almost uncanny how closely Cumberbatch mirrors him.

Highlighted by Outer Space

The reviews I’ve added in the last few weeks:

Viewed at Home

  1. To the Wonder
  2. Unfinished Song
  3. The Kings of Summer
  4. The Big Wedding
  5. Disconnect

Viewed in the Theater

  1. Gravity
  2. Runner, Runner
  3. Cloudy with a Chance of Meat Balls 2
  4. Rush
  5. Don Jon

Gravity is the highlight here. It is my new favorite for five different awards (including Best Director) and I currently have it slated as my third favorite film of 2013.
